If I can see a simple workaround for a faulty appliance then I don’t mind rigging it. Or sometimes modern appliances have error codes that can be looked up to see what’s wrong. In that case it may not be too expensive to get someone over to replace the faulty part. But I don’t have the skills to go deep like you did there Michael. And most appliances and tools are priced and made to be disposable. So that simplifies things for me. I love disposable stuff since you can just buy another! But that’s not always how things are. I put in a beautiful cabinet front, built in, side by side fridge and freezer set when I built our house in 2002. I think they were only $2,500 each. Though the fridge is still fine, the freezer seemed to have constant troubles maybe 5 years out. Service people didn’t seem too optimistic about a fix either. So we eventually converted it to pantry space and use two smaller nearby freezers (either of which could be replaced cheap but have been bullet proof). Some day when we get irritated and have an extra $14,000, we’ll replace the two machines. We probably won’t be able to use the existing cabinet fronts however, so this will certainly change the look of our kitchen.
